San Diego Sabers Weekend Sweep January 24/25

The San Diego Sabers secured two dominant victories, defeating the Ventura Vikings 6-2 and shutting out the Long Beach Bombers 6-0. The Sabers showcased their offensive depth and defensive strength in both matchups. 

GAME 1 - SABERS VS. VIKINGS, 6-2

The San Diego Sabers delivered a commanding 6-2 win over the Ventura Vikings in a thrilling matchup, fueled by relentless offense and disciplined special teams play. The Sabers outshot the Vikings 37-33 and capitalized on crucial scoring opportunities to secure the victory.

In the first period, the Sabers set the tone early, outshooting the Vikings 16-6 and taking a 1-0 lead. Sammy Albano opened the scoring, with an assist from Liam Krupcyznski, giving San Diego momentum heading into the second period.

In the second, the game heated up with both teams scoring. Despite the Vikings narrowing the lead with a power play goal, San Diego struck back with three goals of their own to extend the lead to 4-1.  Liam Krupcyznski scored the first goal of the second period, with an assist from Aidan Cosgrove. The Vikings scored next, but the Sabers responded with a goal from Knut Hornkvist assisted by Aidan Cosgrove and Liam Krupcyznski, and a fourth goal of the game by Caleb Murray with an assist from Matthew Matsuda. 

In the third, the Vikings showed resilience but San Diego maintained control, adding two more goals by Sam Bailey assisted by Knut Hornkvist and another goal by Briar Dickson assisted by Noah Black to seal the victory. Ventura managed one late tally but couldn't overcome the Sabers' offensive onslaught. 

GAME 2 - SABERS VS. BOMBERS, 6-0

The San Diego Sabers delivered a win with a decisive 6-0 shutout against the Long Beach Bombers. The Sabers controlled the game from start to finish, outshooting the Bombers 42-25 and capitalizing on three power play opportunities.

In the first period, the Sabers wasted no time scoring, firing 12 shots on goal and netting the opening tally midway through the period. Sam Bailey scored with an assist from Knut Hornkvist and Briar Dickson to give the Sabers a 1-0 lead.

The Sabers ramped up the pressure in the second, adding two more goals to widen the gap. The Bombers struggled to generate sustained offensive momentum, managing just seven shots on goal. San Diego’s second-period scoring surge included a goal from Payton Hauge, assisted by Markus Gill and Caleb Murray, and a goal from Sammy Albano assisted by Payton Hauge and Caleb Murray. 

The Sabers showed no signs of slowing down, sealing the game with three more goals in the final period. With 16 shots on goal in the third period, San Diego overwhelmed the Bombers' defense. Caleb Murray gave the Sabers two more goals assisted by Sammy Albano, Sam Bailey, and Payton Hauge, and Devlin Morgan joined the scoring, securing the win with assists from Kai Shepherd and Matthew Matsuda. The Bombers had a few late chances but were unable to break through.

The Sabers next play Friday, January 31, 2025 at Valley Children's Ice Center against the Bakersfield Roughnecks at 7:30 pm, PST.
