Sabers November Games Recap

Here’s a quick recap of the San Diego Sabers’ November Matchups: 

November 11, 2024 - SDS VS. OJR

The San Diego Sabers secured a 5-2 victory over Ontario JR Reign in a physical and fast-paced game. Despite being outshot 40-39, the Sabers capitalized on their chances, including a second-period power-play goal that proved pivotal to their victory.

San Diego opened the scoring in the first and held off OJR's pressure with a goal from #94 Sam Bailey assisted by #21 Caleb Murray and #6 Knut Hornkvist. The second period included two goals from the Sabers and 19 shots. #91 Briar Dickson scored the first goal of the period assisted by #24 Sammy Albano and #27 Matthew Matsuda. Our second-period scoring was broken up by one Ontario Junior Reign goal but brought back with a third goal for the Sabers by #24 Sammy Albano and an assist from #29 Mario Bortoli. The Sabers responded to OJR's early third-period goal with two insurance marker goals by #24 Sammy Albano and #44 Kai Shepherd to seal the win.

November 16, 2024 - SDS VS. HNF

The San Diego Sabers defeated Henderson Force 5-2, powered by a flawless 2-for-2 performance on the power play and strong team defense.

San Diego struck early in the first period with a goal from #11 Liam Krupcyznski assisted by #6 Knut Hornkvist and #94 Sam Bailey. The Sabers added three goals in a decisive second period, two on the man advantage with the first being scored by #4 Aidan Cosgrove and the second by #94 Sam Bailey. The third goal of the period was by #6 Knut Hornkvist assisted by #11 Liam Krupcynski and #24 Sammy Albano. Henderson Force responded with two goals but ultimately couldn’t keep up. The Sabers won with a third-period insurance goal by #11 Liam Krupcynski, outshooting HNF 38-35.

November 24, 2024 - SDS VS. BKR

The San Diego Sabers overcame a relentless BKR attack to claim a 5-3 victory, fueled by a three-goal third period. Despite being outshot 51-50, the Sabers surged late to secure the win.

San Diego took an early lead with #11 Liam Krupcynski scoring the first goal of the game assisted by #94 Sam Bailey and #6 Knut Hornkvist. The Bakersfield Roughnecks responded with two second-period goals, including a power-play tally, but #11 Liam Krupcynski scored late into the second to tie the game at 2-2. In the final period, the Sabers’ offense exploded for three goals, two by #91 Briar Dickson and one by #11 Liam Krupcynski, outshooting BKR 25-16 to pull away.

November 29, 2024 - SDS VS. FRM

The San Diego Sabers couldn’t complete a comeback, falling 5-3 to Fresno Monsters despite a resilient effort. After conceding three goals in the first period, the Sabers found their stride in the second, with goals from #94 Sam Bailey assisted by #6 Knut Hornkvist and #11 Liam Krupcynski, and a goal from #21 Caleb Murray assisted by #27 Matthew Matsuda. 

#11 Liam Krupcyznski scored a goal in the third assisted by #6 Knut Hornkvist, but their momentum was stifled in the third as Fresno capitalized on the power play and added an insurance goal. The Sabers were outshot 41-26 and went 0-for-2 on the power play, resulting in a 5-3 loss. 

November 30, 2024 - SDS VS. FRM 

San Diego opened the scoring in the first with #11 Liam Krupcyznski assisted by #94 Sam Bailey and #6 Knut Hornkvist.  The Sabers added three goals in the second with two by #11 Liam Krupcyznski and one by #94 Sam Bailey, but Fresno erupted with seven goals in the middle frame to take control. The Sabers rallied with a third-period goal by #94 Sam Bailey, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the deficit.

Fresno edged the Sabers in shots 35-34 and converted one of five power plays, while San Diego went 0-for-2 with the man advantage.
