Sabers Introduce Updated Branding; Uniform Unveil Coming Soon
The San Diego Sabers today unveiled the team’s new logo, and branding, as well as a new alternative logo in advance of the 2022 - 2023 season; the Sabers third in its new home, Icetown Carlsbad. This will also mark the team's first year operating under the affiliation with the LA Kings and Ontario Reign.
The Sabers are relaunching what is very much an aspirational brand synonymous with San Diego as the team sought inspiration from the surrounding environment including the infamous Diegoaelurus, deep military roots, and rich heritage.
While it's not easy to reflect a vibe in logos and uniforms, the team set out to do just that by giving their iconic yellow and black color scheme a much-needed update.
The Sabers are now bringing Predator Gold and Stealth Black to the forefront of the team’s new mark, alternative logo, and soon-to-be-revealed uniform design. While subtle, Stealth Black is the color often donned by local military members and Predator Gold is to represent the coats often found in apex predators.
San Diego is quintessential Southern California and is also home to the largest U.S. Navy and Marine Corps bases on the West Coast and serves as the principal homeport of the Pacific Fleet. While more details are still to be unveiled, the fonts and numbers are an ode to those who protect our freedoms.
The primary logo of the San Diego Sabers underwent a dramatic update to better represent both the team and city. The new shield design represents that of a royal flag on the battlefield. The acronym SD is heavily used by professional sports teams that have and do call San Diego home. And lastly, the Saber was updated to better represent that of the Diegoaelurus, whose fossils were first discovered in Oceanside, CA in 1988 by construction crews widening Interstate 5.
The Sabers updated mark and branding are only the beginning as they embark on their 13th season with a bold statement. Season tickets can be purchased for the 2022 - 2023 season by visiting sandiegosabershockey.com/season-tickets. Merchandise will be made available to fans later this summer.
